Dr. Shook, Does Levothyroxine (generic) for synthroid have the same ingredients and make up as synthroid even if synthroid is synthetic also. My Dr is trying me on it since my insurance doesn’t pay for synthroid to see if it works for me, I have been on it since July 9th, I have been doing better on it this week but couple weeks ago I crashed almost every other day with my energy level. I have my next labs in Oct and see him a week after on the 13th. I sent him a message couple weeks ago and told him i didn’t think it was working for me, his office called today and said I needed to be on it for 6 weeks before I get labs checked, I am watching my hair to see if it starts coming out a lot. My energy level and hair is the only two things I know to watch to know when my levels aren’t up to par
Hi Kimberly, they do have different fillers and binders. The hormone in both medications is synthetic t4, the only difference are the fillers and binders. You may be reacting to a filler or binder, I have a chart at the office that shows the different fillers and binders just let me know what dosage you’re taking and I will look yours up. Different dosages can have different fillers and binders even if its the same brand name or generic. There are a lot of different things that could be causing your symptoms and I would ask for other hormone levels than just TSH. Hope this helps you, have a good day.
Thanks…I am on 88 mcg, my last labs were good in July, my T4 free was 1.18 and TSH was 3.60, he didn’t check the T3
Okay I’ll take a look. You can’t tell if a person can convert t4 to t3 without more hormone markers. The conversion problems come from increased inflammation, increase cortisol, liver problems and inadequate stomach acid, poor microbiota in the gut and low intestinal sulfatase. You need more markers than TSH and t4 if you really want to figure out what’s happening with your thyroid.
This totally makes sense to me now. Thanks!
