Yes! It is a common problem, but there are other causes too, so make sure you see your primary if you are having these problems just to rule out other causes.

Monica, I’m glad it was helpful for you. There are so many things you can do from a dietary and nutritional supplementation perspective.
Several things that really helped me with insomnia is cutting caffeine, taking magnesium, Epsom salt baths, and essential oils (lavender, Vetiver, & cedarwood). I diffuse oil and use them topically.

For me, it’s low iron
Low iron is a big problem for so many process in the body. Do you know why it is low? I commonly see this in menstruating women.
My guess is I’m not absorbing enough from food, plus 9 pregnancies, one miscarriage, and not taking a quality prenatal regularly. I actually had a SpectraCell test and needed so many nutrients. I’m homozygous for MTHFR as well.
Crystal, it could be absorption, especially if your diet is fairly good. If you have GI symptoms, you’ve got to work on the gut and get it healthy to be able and absorb nutrients.

What are the causes if I get too much sleep and it’s hard for me to wake up?
Anca, there are a lot of potential causes. It needs to be evaluated by your doctor. They can run some blood tests to rule out the most common causes.
I have the same question.. it’s hard for me wake up when l sleep more then 5/6 hours.
It needs to be evaluated to have a better idea of the factors driving your symptoms. Sorry, but it’s a complex quesiton that requires more information.
Wow if only I were able to find such a doctor in Poland, here Hashimoto’s is not treated seriously, they just prescribe thyroxine and that’s it

My endocrinologist can seems to get my thyroid under control. I bounce between hypo and hyper monthly. I have been doing this for 6 years . I just found out in February 2017 I have hashimoto. Is there anyway I can fix my problems? Should I ask about a thyroid surgery to have it removed? Maybe that will help get my tsh under control.
Hi Shannon, sorry that you are having these problems. THis type of fluctuation is rather common with Hashimoto’s. Until you dampen the autoimmunity, you will likely be on the “Hashimoto’s roller coaster.” Every time you have an immune attack on the gland, thyroid cells are destroyed releasing thyroid hormone into your blood stream. This release of hormone causes a spike in levels. As time passes, you burn through the hormone and may go low again. Until you dampen the autoimmunity, you will likely have these spikes up and down.

Why do you mention potatoe or rice as that’s not on AIP diet?
Hi, Rachel. We use a lot of different dietary approaches, and for a lot of people they can, and need to eat other foods than those on an AIP diet. I typically take people through two or three phases of healing, with different dietary approaches. Hope this helps.

Michele, you can also try green banana starch. You can buy it in a powder, apparently it’s not that bad. I’ve never tried it but I have a lot of clients that use it.
