Does your tea have TH1 stimulating herbs in it? If so, that could be a problem for autoimmunity!
TH1 = cell mediated immunity
TH2 = Humoral Immunity
Herbs??? Can you give example of which herbs
Some TH1 stimulating foods, herbs… echinacea, astragulus, licorice root, ashwaganda, panax ginseng, chlorella, grape seed extract, maitake, reishi, and shitake.
Haptens – immune stimulating environmental chemicals
Why is vitamin D important to immune system regulation?
What if your vitAmin D is high?
Leslie, are you supplementing with vitamin D?
Low ferritin high vitamin D
How about just a plain black tea?
VItamin D can actually be produced by some immune cells. You need to follow-up with your doctor. This is a good resource when trying to understand some of your labs. https://labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/vitamin-d/tab/test/
Hi Dr. Shook, my endo just wants to medicate me but not get to the root of the problem and make me feel better.
If hashis is it always T1 dominant?
Hi Angela. Black tea is not usually immune stimulating, but it does stimulate the adrenal glands and can cause problems with energy production and blood sugar balance. Some teas are dried with fungus, and that could be a problem.
HI Kimberly, we think hashi is about 70% TH1 dominant, but not always.
Way to test which is dominant?
Hi, Lara. Sorry to hear your endo is not more progressive, they try to help but may not be familiar with this type of approach.
Yeah my TSH is in range, but I feel like an 80 year old. Tired, joint pain, etc.
Kimberley, we look at history first to see if your history tells us your dominance. Next, you can do a TH1 / TH2 challenge test to see if you feel different. We no longer check cytokines to determine dominance, they are not reliable.
Lara, there are so many other possibilities that could be happening. You need TSH, TT4, TT3, fT3, fT4, reverse T3, T3 Uptake and thyroid antibodies at a minimum.
What is the link to get a distance appointment?
Hi Lara. Here you go https://drbradshook.com/new-patient-center/ Hope this helps.
Wow, great video!
I don’t want to know….I love my loose leaf tea!
Ashwaganda, Holy basil, Licorice, Schisandra, Cat’s Claw, Aloe vera, cordyceps sinensis, Privet, Reishi are classified as immune-modulating, not stimulating. Explain, please.
Hi, Raven. I don’t think that any of these compounds are black and white as to their stimulatory or regulatory effects. For example, Ashwagandha has been shown to contribute to TH1 stimulation. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=ashwaganda+TH1+stimulating
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23261828
Here is a study on Reishi’s ability to promote TH1 activity https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15118318
Raven, I just want to mention that I love all these things you mentioned too! They are amazing! You mentioned cordyceps… love it! I’m actually trying this out https://www.amazon.com/Four-Sigma-Foods-Mushroom-Coffee/dp/B00UI10SDU
Thank you. I’ll read through these.
What about coffee? I’m sure it has problems too?
How about Nettle Tea?
did you do blood tests for all these? or some skin prick?
Which herbs?
LORDY! It’s going to get where I can’t eat or drink ANYTHING! What about Asians? They drink tea all the time!
