so frustrated with drs. the endocron. i went and saw just seems to think there is nothing that can be done for hashimotos … for my tiredness he lowered my med. changed from synthroid to levothy. to 25mcg and added liothyronine 5mcg to take at 11am everyday … I was taking 50mcg of synthroid pryor and it was keeping my levels right … so frustrating insur. won’t cover your program 🙁

Dr. Shook, do you have Hashimotos yourself?

  4. Dee Miller-Kunis Reply

I am wondering if I am too far gone with my thyroid. I only recently understood this and found out that I have Hashimoto’s. I was tested 10 years ago but the doctor didn’t tell me anything. I didn’t even know I was tested until I looked at my old records with the nurse. My antibody count was 125 back then. My second test was 240. I went on a gluten-free diet but didn’t realize I was still getting gluten through my Selenium tablets. When I had my third test, it went down eight points to 232. I have tried to put this in remission. I am going to test again in December. I just don’t know if I am too far gone or if this will help but I am sticking with it.

Hi Princess, going gluten free and taking selenium are great places to start. Don’t let the antibody levels fool you though. The antibody levels are not reflective of the status of your immune condition. I know there’s a tendency to want to make that Association, I even have heard a lot of experts say that but there is no literature that shows us that just because you’re anybody levels come down your autoimmunity is doing better. Just consider the case where someone is seronegative, meaning they don’t making anybody’s but they still have Hashimoto’s. That person does not have any antibody production but they still have the process, so does that mean that they’re autoimmune condition is doing better? I just want to share this with you because it’s a common misunderstanding and I just want to make sure that you don’t get stuck in that trap of trying to lower antibodies and thinking that it is reflective of your autoimmunity. The best way to determine how you’re doing is just to see how you feel.

First of all, thank you for information …

I have a question , I am going to remove half my thyroid the 24 this month, I have already removed one of the parathyroids as Well, my bloodsamples were close to normal for a long time :but I did have a rapid pulse, 100-110 while resting, have been like this for years and years, I am a nurse, I am in normal good shape, but still this rapid pulse, anxiety, trouble sleeping, non stop bleeding, therefore low Hb, and finally: my thyroid expanded, now I have a giant lump on my neck : only then my doctors agreed it was a problem : I have Been feeling sick for years… My question is: if you dont mind me asking … Do you think That the remaining half thyoroid gland will do the job..? I wanted to remove all of it, because I really dont want this kind of surgery for the Third time…
My doctors say that half the gland looks normal , the other half is completly broken…

Do you have an advise for me, I dont thing that the doctors I have spoken to give a lot of information, and I feel a little lost, then I found you .. You have been Very helpful already … And also : is it a risky operation…?
Do you have an advise for me for the rest of my life : how should I go about so I can Get my health back …?

    Big questions …
    Very greatful for any answers..

Thank you so much for this page ..
    Best regards from Norway

At 40 my vision suddenly blurred & one eye started bulging. Was told i had Hyperthyroidism& Graves disease.Took meds for awhile until I lost my job. Got clean & sober at 49 found out year later had Hypothyroidism & drs have slowly increased med the past 12 yrs. Now my RA has suddenly attacked again with a vegeance in my hand & knee & frequent neck pain. The “goiter” in my throat has been there for years . Ive been taking care of myself the past 12.5 yrs , I take vitamins , do regular checkups.Would like to know how to fix this not just treat the symptoms !
