Thanks Dr. Shook, for this priceless information, and for taking your precious time to share it with us. For the first time I am finding answers and strategies as for how to deal with my Hashimoto’s and the endless list of food that I’m reacting too. Can’t wait to this research to come out.

Dr. Shook, thanks for the video. I was just diagnosed with Hashimotos, I’m very interested in any information or diets that can help me with this diagnosis. I just started a medication regime but need to know what else I can do to help myself feel better.

Hey, Angela! I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s back in March and the lifestyle change I have found to work for me so far includes four things: 1.) dietary changes 2.) stress reduction 3.) mild/moderate exercise 4.) sleep.

The eating habits that have helped me thus far and that seem to help others with AI diseases is what’s called Autoimmune Paleo. It’s sometimes referred to as Autoimmune Protocol or AIP. The idea has to do with eliminating nightshades, nuts, seeds, any liquid or spice derived from nightshades, nuts, and seeds, caffeine (coffee, chocolate, etc), egg, etc, along with following the Paleo lifestyle. The additional eliminations are recommended for at least 30 days. Some people find they need more time than that before slowly reintroducing in phases of least likely to offend towards most likely to offend. I really liked this approach because it reset my body in a way, as it was more of an elimination diet to help discover my own triggers and give my gut some time to really start healing. You can find more information online…and there is such a huge support network of others who also battle various autoimmune diseases. If you haven’t heard of The Paleo Mom, check her out (her real name is Sarah Ballantyne)…she is an autoimmune warrior with a PhD in medical biophysics; she writes a ton of articles on the science and explanation of food eliminations, etc. Of course, I’m not a doctor, but those are just some things I have learned so far. Hopefully you can get yourself on your way to healing and feeling better soon!!!

Hi Dr. Shook, I have been diagnosed with Graves’ disease and I would like more info on how to treat it without Methimazole. Thanks so much!

Hi Vanessa, the first thing is to address the divers of your autoimmunity. The easiest thing to start with is diet. If you need further help and assistance just let me know. I hope this helps you, have a great night.

Hi Dr Shook, I’m excited for that new research to come out too! You are the only one that Has explained why gluten isn’t good for ppl with Hashimotos. Thank you for making things more clear.

Maybe I should just quit eating

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

No, that would decrease your gut bacteria diversity and make food reactions worse. Diverse gut bacteria come from a diverse diet and help you establish better oral tolerance to foods (react less). Hope this helps.

Since thyroidectomy for hoshimoto and thyroid cancer a year ago been complaining of IBS-D, nausea, vomiting, dehydration, fibromyalgia, spasms etc.. Just went again to dr today because im not coping well with these symptoms EVERYDAY and missing alot of work and life. My pcp says I have anxiety and is the reason for all the symptoms. Im beyond frustrated. Your videos give me hope that there could be a REAL reason i feel so bad everyday so that i can correct the problem and start living again.

Thanks for the info feeling really frustrated right now gaining weight and all my doctor did was throw a diet at me and told me to quit eating fast food well I don’t eat fast food for one and I am gluten free and only eating organic no sugary foods ready to really give up and my daughter keeps telling with Hashimotos I need to go paleo and stay away from dairy I tried the paleo diet and that just made me sicker

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Sherry, hang in there! If paddle is making you feel worse then you probably need to tweak a few things, make sure blood sugar is stable too. Some people react to foods on the paleo diet, and for some, diet isn’t the primary driver of their problems. I wish it were easier. I hope this helps you.

      • Sherry Valentine

Yes it helps I have hypoglycemia and I need the fats in my diet to keep my blood sugar from dropping I did well on the Suzanne sommers diet years ago and going to stick to that

      • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook

Sherry you should consider a diet that removes the dietary proteins that we know where most likely going to trigger an immune response. The first food that I suggest most people remove is gluten, and then I would suggest removing so, Dairy and eggs. If you want to take a more restrictive diet some people have done well on an Autoimmune Paleo diet but you have to make sure that you eat every 2 to 3 hours and if you’re hypoglycemic broad spectrum B vitamins and some supplemental formula can be helpful in stabilizing blood sugar. If you need more help just let me know. Hope this helps, have a good night.

      • Sherry Valentine

Ok will give it a go

This sounds wonderful! Thank you for the info! You made a comment to get tested to identify the drivers. Is this a blood test that can be done to see what foods you react too? I had a basic food allergy blood panel done but it only came back for egg whites and pork. I was sure gluten would be on there. Is there a better test or way?

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Hi Jennifer, you are welcome. Yes there are better tests. Cured labs testing is the very best. Hope this helps!
