My hubbys testosterone is low and he is on shots. Isn’t that bad for him? It thickened my dad’s blood. He’s now dead. Not saying that’s the cause but….

Testosterone replacement therapy could be dangerous. The question that I would be asking is the testosterone Low?

The most common reason for low testosterone in men is insulin resistance or obesity. The reason for this is the cause when they have increased visceral or abdominal fat their testosterone is very quickly converted to estrogen by an enzyme called Aroma taste that is higher in people with obesity.

Other reasons that are common but not quite as common as insulin resistance and obesity is elevated cortisol due to stress there different types of stress.

There are three different types of stress. There’s chemical stress which is typically due to inflammation, there is emotional stress and physical pain. All of these stressors stimulate the fight or flight response and you will produce cortisol at a higher rate. Cortisol DHEA a precursor hormone needed to make testosterone.

Address the cause of the stress to improve and optimize hormone physiology. Supporting testosterone directly in cases of stress may not be the right thing to do.

Hello Dr Shook. I know you are taking about estrogen and testosterone but can the progesterone in an IUD also increase risk of cancer?

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Progesterone is not supposed to be a problem it’s actually supposed to have some protective effects but I have seen progesterone Spike other hormones especially estrogen. The biggest take home that I can give you is if you’re using an external source of hormones check all the hormone levels and your estrogen metabolism to make sure that it’s okay.

I have Hashimotos. I’m on spirolactone for acne. I’m told it’s an androgen blocker. Can this affect my hormones and or conversion of T4 to T3

I love learning about all of this, thank you for taking the time to teach so many people. Does tubal ligation for woman or a vasectomy for men cause additional metabolic or health risks? Could you possibly talk about this at some point?
