My doctor told me my thyroid gland is “dead” and non-functional; therefore I will always need replacement hormone. (First diagnosed at age 12 and am now approaching age 70). Meanwhile, I can eat any food I like, including the goitrogenic foods that I love, since you can’t kill a gland that’s already dead. Wishing good luck to all of you folks who still have a chance to gain some control.

what if yur CBC panel came out in the normal range? Is that good enough to look at as far as having testing any further?

    Hi Doc.

I managed to put my hashimoto under control and even in reverse only with diet, natural supplements, exercises and fasting and totally refusing taking any medication. It took several years under the supervision of my doctor, but I did it. When I somewhere bumped on your Hashimoto video, a vague picture of what was going on with my body got focused, and my intuitive conclusions on this disease got a scientific approval. Thank you a lot! Your site is so educational and knowledgeable. It takes one doctor to be his own patient to be willing to break the dead circle of doctor-patient and to solve the puzzle of cure!

what about the situation of basically not converting T4 to T3 due to a mutation of the DIO1 gene? Do you look for this first? I would think that one could have many of the issues that you show here but if genetically, one does not do the conversion well of T4 to T3, then much time and effort could be spent in investigating all of these other issues. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2515080/

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

yes I’m familiar with that polymorphism. Those people typically require T3 supplementation but the people that I work with never come to me was just one problem and most of them already know that they are autoimmune. Any clients that I work with they need a much more in-depth investigation other than just T4 to T3 conversion.

The Office of Dr. Brad Shook thank you for the quick response! I am one of those People with many issues! I am trying to “peel the onion” to fix myself. I have done tons of blood work, studied thyroid function and have gotten into the genetics end of this because I see my Family members suffering as well and nobody is being helped! I am now on T3-Cytomel but not enough..15mcg as my Dr thinks I’ll go into cardiac arrest. I have normal TSH, normal T4 and low T3 with high reverse T3. The suggested “fix” for the SNP rs2235544 which I have says “Take Selenium.” I read that selenium is involved in this conversion! My RBC selenium levels is high (just above the normal levels). Others I’ve consulted say this high selenium is due to the MTHFR gene or copper levels….I guess even though the selenium levels are high then I am not utilizing it? good grief…If you can help me, I’d like to make an appointment with you! 🙂

Hi, i have been retaining the water in my legs i went to the E.R they said everything was fine gave me Lasix and sent me home and i’m still the same.

Hi Cindy. There are a lot of possible reasons that you can be swelling and it’s a good thing that you were checked out medically. I would probably follow up with your primary care physician too. I’ve seen swelling improve dramatically in a lot of the people that I’ve worked with. It seems to be connected to the adrenal glands and a hormone called aldosterone improving wants they are inflammatory load decreases and their nutrients status improves.

My thyroid has been borderline over the last several years. I did some research on it and found out that Vitamin B can help. I took Vitamin B, B6, B12, etc. over a six month period. My thyroid number was in normal range on my last blood work (December, 2018).
