Hi everyone! Are you a member of our thyroud support group? https://www.facebook.com/groups/HickoryThyroid/

  2. Staff DrShook Reply

I hoped this helped everyone better understand the relationship between decreased thyroud hormone activity and an impaired ability to burn fat for energy. These are the labs Dr Shook recommends you understand and check first https://hashimotosdoctor.com/free-book-pageqpuqvcr1

I just purchased this and the 29 non-thyroid tests packet too. I’m looking forward to getting some results.

We don’t promote weight loss because we want you to be healthy first, and for that to be the focus, but people very commonly lose weight when we work with them. Judy lost over 60 pounds! https://business.facebook.com/drbradshook/videos/1710534789185603/

This is a diet and lifestyle based program that Dr. Shook recommends for most people as a starting point if you are not an actual in office or distance consulting client (FYI, this program is free for people that have a new patient or distance consulting appointment in the month of September). https://hashimotosdoctor.com/auto-webinar-registrationwhq2lzrf

    How can I utilize it???

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Hi Dawn. That is a great question that is unique to each person. There are so many ways the thyroid and body can lose its ability to burn fat for energy that you have to consider a lot of variables. I wish I could give you an answer that would help you, but the problem is going to be unique to you. I hope this helps. Have a nice night.

    That’s me

Hi, Jeannette. I’m sorry you are having these problems. It is such a common complaint that I hear, and unfortunately, medications don’t improve weight loss or metabolism for a lot of people, because the thyroid hormone amount is not the only problem. I hope this helps you. Have a nice night.

      • Jeannette Moseley

i have to say I absolutely love your passion for educating people about the body… Most doctors are quite the opposite and I have worked for several. I insisted my dr test me for Hashimoto’s.. Should have the results back next few days… I am planning on becoming one of your patients either way 😉 thank you for what you do.

      • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook

Jeannette, thank you for the kind words. Good job on being your own advocate and pushing for testing, hopefully, they got TPO and thyroglobulin antibodies for you. Some doctors only order TPO and that is not good enough (in my opinion.) Not sure if you know it, but my office offers to check those antibodies as a community service for only $20. A doctor-patient relationship is not established, we just get them so that people can find out of they have hashimoto’s so that they can start addressing what everyone is ignoring… the fact it is an autoimmune condition that is causing their problems. Hope this helps.

      • Jeannette Moseley

you are just awesome… I will check to see what labs he requested be done, if he hasn’t done them I will def have your office do it. Now, you should be watching football and decompressing from your day.

        Jeannette, true story! Thanks.

For someone with no thyroid… But still feel sluggish even though I am within normal limits, would this program help?

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Hi, Crystal. Your question is impossible to answer because there are so many reasons why you could be feeling the way you do, and it may not be your thyroid. If it is the thyroid that is causing your symptoms, then this program is very good at supporting optimal function, and would very likely help you out. If you are considering the program, I would consider making an appointment (in person or via phone, skype or facetime) to see if you can get in during the month of September. We are offering our diet and lifestyle program free to all new patients or distance clients. The real benefit to you would be that we could talk and I could review your case to help you decide what I think would be the best next step for you to take. I wish I could give you more specific answers, but I would need a lot more information. Hope this helps. Have a nice night.

THIS is my problem. Levels are good but I just know my body cannot utilize the thyroid hormone the way it should. So if some people cannot use fat for energy, is a ketogenic diet not a good idea? Because that’s what I am trying now. I’ve actually lost more weight this way than any other way but my muscles feel fatigued …and I’m not shedding weight as fast as most do on a ketogenic diet. Hmm…I’m going to hang in there a while and see if my body adapts. Thank you for posting these videos! So nice to hear from a doctor who understands Hashimotos.

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

HI Cindy. The ketogenic diet can be a great way to improve your health, but if there are underlying problems with food sensitivities, gut problems (bacteria, yeast, parasites), hormonal imbalances, vitamins or nutrient deficiencies, the diet may not work as you would expect. It has been my observation that being specific, and addressing the problems that the person is having based on testing gives you the best results. Sometimes you can hit home runs with diet alone, but there are a lot of other variables that could be causing decreased metabolism. It sounds like you are doing an good job and have a plan, so hang in there and let us know if there is anything we can do to help you. Have a good night.

      • Cindy Ramos

Thank you so much! I definitely will, and you have a good night, also 🙂

Is there something you can take or do to increase that lipase sensitivity? My thyroid levels look normal but I am not losing weight. I lost some weight when I first started on the synthroid but I slowly gained most of it back.

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Virginia, Have you had Total T4, Total T3, Free T4, Free T3, T3 Uptake and Reverse T3 checked? What about thyroid antibodies to see if you are autoimmune? I would then check inflammatory markers, look at blood sugar, check for anemia, look at the liver and GI tract function. If autoimmune I would consider the causes of autoimmunity (foods, infection, environmental chemicals). I may also consider looking at sex hormones and cortisol, it just depends on where your health history leads. I know that is a lot, but you have to cast a wide net to figure many of these things out. The “standard of care” testing being done is just not good enough. I hope this helps.
