Roles of the gallbladder: Help with absorption of fats and helps eliminate chemicals, hormones and toxins from the blood.

  4. Staff DrShook Reply

Decreased thyroid activity can result in a sluggish gallbladder resulting possible stone formation.

I had to have mine removed but I didn’t have any stones it just stopped working

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Hi, Gina. Yes, that is the most frequent t thing people are told, “it stopped working.” This can often be due to poor thyroid hormone activity. Hope this helps!

      • Gina Bock

Wish I would have known that then as I wouldn’t of had it removed. My then endo would not put me on thyroid medication as in his words my labs were in range what a doofus. My pcp now has me in Nature-throid and Liothyroine

  14. Gay Wood Reply

Hello and thanks for this information

  15. Jessica Louise Garwood Reply

What labs should they do for thyroid? I have no thyroid. I’m on nature thyroid. Was on 98 then 119 now 130. Notice 130 give me heat flash. I got gallbladder removed about 9 yrs ago

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Hi, Jessica. You need to look at more thyroid markers to know what is happening. The guidebook Alisha recommended is a great place to start. I hope this helps you. Have a nice day.

      • Jessica Louise Garwood

Do u do online consultations at all? My energy level is at a zero. Not sure if other vitamin levels are low or what. Can’t seem to get the right levels. At my last labs It was so low they didn’t think I was taking my medicine

  16. Gay Wood Reply

Would love to gave more information regarding the 9 tests

  17. Linda Venegoni Purkis Reply

Had fall bladder removed years ago. I am hypothyroid.

  18. Shelley Drever Reply

You are the one doctor who has actually explains the complete cycle and how everything works. I would not have known a thing about NDT if it wasn’t for these online groups. However, there is now an overload of information to process so I feel I’m no further ahead.
I had a goiter develop and had a total thyroidectomy in 1994. The surgeon and her colleagues thought for sure it was cancerous. No mention of goiter or natural thyroid treatment at the time. In was given 2 choices, surgery or live with the enlargement. I chose surgery because it ‘might’ be cancerous and I only had to take a pill everyday for the rest of my life.
Skip ahead 16 years on Levothyroxine, to 9 lbs of Fibroids, a partial hysterectomy, another 2 years and a golf ball size gall stone with gall bladder removal in 2012. I now realize that my metabolism is not working as it should be. I’ve been on .125 mg of NDT since May 2015. (Sorry for the history book)
With this knowledge, what tests should I start with to try to find my optical state?

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

H Shelley. Sorry that you have gone through so much. I would start with making sure that your thyroid hormone physiology is optimal. The “9 Tests” guidebook is an excellent place to start. I really hope this helps you, and I appreciate your willingness to share your story. Have a nice day.

  19. Melinda Cruz Reply

I would like access to guide book

  20. Cynthia Smith Reply

I just had tsh test and it was 10.4 and I’m having major muscle cramps is there anything bin can do

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Hi, Cynthia. A lot of different things can cause those symptoms, you need more testing to help determine what is causing it. Did the doctors check any other thyroid markers? I suggest you consider getting our “9 Tests” guidebook to better understand what thyroid specific markers need to be checked. Hope this helps.

On one of my many trips to NC, I was stuck there having by gallbladder removed

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Hi Dena, that does not sound like fun. Gallbladder attacks are terrible. I hope you are doing better now. have a nice day.

  22. Dena Rand Reply

What additional supplements should I take now that my gallbladder has been removed?

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Hi Dena. I can’t recommend anything specifically for you, bur in similar cases I have recommended dandelion and milk thistle.

      • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook

They improve bile flow. The first thing I have my clients and patients do is to make sure they are drinking enough water to think the bile.

  23. Lori Ann Wooldridge Reply

I’m both hypothyroid and hashimotos. I’ve been symptomatic with gallbladder for 3 years. Yesterday I ended up in the ER with the worst pain I’ve ever experienced in my life. The ER doctor was going to send me home with the diagnosis of the stomach flu. Ends up, I have several stones in my gallbladder.

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Hi Lori, sorry you are having problems with your gallbladder, I know it is terrible pain. Hope you feel better soon.

  24. Cabrina Perez Reply

Dr. Shook, you’re ahead of the game!!! Why don’t other doctors understand the connection?!!! Yesterday, I was told my body is bypassing my gallbladder. I was diagnosed with hypo 2 yrs ago. (Should my next step be surgery to have it removed?) Earlier this year, my Endo told me my stomach problems had nothing to do with my thyroid. A Gastro told me my thyroid had nothing to do with stomach problems. I have no choice but to be my own advocate. God bless you for sharing your knowledge!

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Hi, Cabrina. Thank you for the kind words, I’m really not that smart, I just had some great teachers 🙂 You are welcome, and it is my pleasure to share this with you all. Thyroid problems are at epidemic levels and unfortunately thyroid hormone replacement alone doesn’t get the majority of people better, because the problem is actually autoimmune.

  25. Teresa Sorenson Carter Reply

Hi! Thank you! I would like to check out the guide book

  26. Sarah Davis Butler Reply

I had to have mine removed last December, I started out with 2 stones, I had already done 3 detox trying to to get rid of them and ended up with 7 large stones and in severe pain! My liver and pancreas enzymes were very high so they took it out

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Hi, Sarah. That is a lot to go through. I have tried those liver detoxes too, and they made me feel terrible, though I did pass stones. I hope you are doing better now. Have a nice day.

Several women in my family have had their gallbladder removed, some of the same women have had thyroid issues. Unfortunately they don’t seem to see a connection, or see a need to take thyroid medication since their levels are “normal”. Is there something I can share with them that might give them incentive to seek treatment to get their “normal” levels to a more optimal level?

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Hi, Vanessa. Yes, this is the video I would show them. https://www.facebook.com/drbradshook/videos/1723205491251866/ (then the video on thyroid and gallbladder problems will make more sense). Hope this helps! have a nice day.

      • Vanessa Halpin

Thank you so much!! I just watched this video with my husband and it blows my mind how many different ways this has affected my body. I have found some relief of pain and inflammation by supplementing with Selenium. Glad to know I’m on the right track! But I know my GI track function needs improvement. I live in New York, how can I get access to your Hashimoto “overhaul” plan, specifically having to do with diet alterations to help my GI Track?

I had an attack, gallbladder removed. I think I was diagnosed with hypothroidism shortly before that. But no one ever told me about Hashmotos. That was almost 20 years ago. I only heard of Hashmotos and was told I had it a few years ago.
