Hi Lisa, that means you are autoimmune, and the autoimmunity needs to be addressed! Great job. Way to be your own advocate.

Lisa, if you find that you need help just remember that my practice primarily consist of working with people across the country in different states and around the world through distance Consulting. I’m able to get Laboratory Testing and even Advance tests and we can have our appointments via Skype, FaceTime or even on the phone. I hope that knee specialist your doctors refer you to acknowledge is the fact that you have an autoimmune condition that is the primary cause of your thyroid problems. Most specialist end up doing the exact same thing your primary care doctor does and that is prescribed you thought I would hormone replacement based on TSH levels and they completely ignore the autoimmunity and the fact that that is what’s actually causing your problems to begin with. The issue really is that the specialist and primary care physicians don’t have any tools except medications and there’s no medication for the autoimmunity Kama so that what they do is they prescribe you if I would hormone replacement and hope that the thyroid hormone replacement helps to minimize the ups and downs that you experience as your throat is gradually being destroyed. The thing that they really fail to recognize and understand is that this autoimmune process predispose you to expanded autoimmunity to other tissues and even cancers. Just make sure that you continue to learn and that you are your own Advocate you don’t have to argue with the doctors at all because that is typically not going to be helpful for you and quite frankly you need in this part of your team. Just try to continue to educate yourself know that you were dealing with a primary autoimmune condition it’s causing thyroid related symptoms and that taking thyroid hormone alone does not do anything at all for the autoimmunity. If you have any questions or anything just let us know but I really hope this helps you out. Have a great night.

Do you work with people who have had a total thyroidectomy due to thyroid cancer?

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Hi Teresa. As long as the person is not undergoing active treatment for thyroid cancer then I will work with them. In these types of cases I focus on making sure that the rest of the thyroid physiology is optimal. Many of the same problems that cause issues for people that have Hashimoto’s or Graves disease cause the exact same problems for people that have had thyroid cancer. So the first thing that you look at is inflammation comma then you look at the thyroid hormone in great detail and consider things like T3 uptake, reverse T3, conversion issues and problems that can arise with the liver and the gut and then we move into looking at red blood cells to see if there’s any type of anemic patterns, is glycemia is next and then we start looking at things like adrenal gland function male and female sex hormones, and nutrient deficiencies. If you have a diagnosed autoimmune condition or if you were diagnosed with Hashimoto’s or Graves disease at any point, then we would absolutely want to consider the drivers of autoimmunity and investigating those with testing. There are a lot of different ways to approach these problems from a dietary nutritional perspective if it’s something that I can actually help you with. If you would like to discuss it further maybe you should consider scheduling a free 15-minute consultation so that we can discuss your case a little bit more detail and see if I can give you a better idea of the possibilities. I hope this helps, have a great night.
