Is fasting necessary for checking all thyroid blood work

Never herd about T3 upptake…even less that it’s something that should be testet. I don’t think the doctors in Sweden has any idea about what this is.
    Thanks for all information

Is iodine uptake the same thing and if so couldn’t we just test Rt3

  4. Audra Guthery Reply

In one of your other videos, you mentioned that rT3 can also dock onto these receptor sites. Is the uptake test measuring both free t3 and rt3 together or just free t3?

Great question audra, T3 and reverse T3 will occupy receptors on the cell. T3 uptake is measuring the available receptor sites on the cell.

I have PCOS, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, Hypothyroidism, and Type II Diabetes. Even though I take thyroid hormones, I still feel tired. I think you explained it for me. I understand a lot more about this. Thank you so much.

Hello The Office of Dr. Brad Shook. I recently did some blood work with my doctor, and my T3 Uptake levels have been high on 2 tests that I have done. These are my latest results. My doctor said I have nothing to worry about. Is there anything I could do to make my levels normal again?

I often see patterns like this when testosterone is being used. When we clear the excess testosterone or synthetic androgen hormones it often improves. That’s the first question i would ask.

Thanks for your feedback. I wonder why I would be producing excess testosterone? I have also noticed a change in my hair texture. It used to be straight, but now it’s wiry and difficult to comb. Are there any natural supplements I could take to get back into range?

What I’ve done in similar cases is have those hormone levels evaluated to see if they are high. In cases like this I would check DHEA, testosterone, estrial, estrone, cortisol , and progesterone. There are several different reasons that you can have elevated hormones but some of the most common reasons that I see cause an overproduction of testosterone is higher blood sugar and high insulin levels. What will occur if you have high blood sugar and insulin is that you will upregulate enzymes that convert your hormones into androgens vs. Estrogens. So for example DHEA is more frequently converted into testosterone than dheas into estrogen. What I’ve done in similar cases is evaluating hormone levels first to see if they are hi especially testosterone. High testosterone tends to decrease the number of thyroid hormone binding proteins in the bloodstream causing you to have more free hormones available and that causes your T3 uptake to rise. That’s the first thing that I have done in similar cases from a clinical perspective. Is blood sugar and Insulin are higher than the number one Focus needs to be on stabilizing balancing blood sugar and keeping insulin low. You can use different herbs and Botanicals to support a lot of different hormonal problems but you have to know why the problems are occurring so that you can select the right kind of nutraceutical support. I hope this helps you.

If Estrogens are very low and almost nonexistent would that mean TBG would be low as well, preventing uptake?
Would ERT be helpful or harmful?
