We get a lot of quesitons about Graves’ Disease, so I want to clear up one of the most common quesitons, “Is Graves Disease Gone Once The Thyroid Is Removed?”.
The most important question to ask is “what is Graves’ Disease?”.
Do you know?
Is it a thyroid problem… or is it an immune system problem?
Why is the thyroid pumping out more hormone?
It’s becasue of the immune system. Does removing the thyroid, part of the endocrine system (hormone producing gland) and is not part of the immune system.
So why remove the gland and not address the factors promoting the autoimmunity?

I am in remission since 2012 but it feels like it pops up every now and then . I was on methimazole
I have both and Celiac
I want to know why I can’t be prescribed a biologic for my auto-immune problem.
Now I have a major digestive issue, and we still don’t know what the problem is. I am at the end of my rope. It is like a vicious cycle. I get stressed because of my digestive issues, and then the stress of that triggers graves symptoms, round and round we go…
Rhonda, do you have celiac or gluten intolerance? There is a connection between thyroid disease and celiac
A little over a year ago, my Dr checked me for celiac
I wish someone would just give me something to calm me. I think that would help be to focus and be more successful in what I am trying to do, with my health

Iron Deficiency anemia hurts the intestinal lining.
I’ve been offered Humira. What’s your feelings on this drug?
Christine, Humara is the devil
I was checked for all kinds of things. I have had test after test, for the last 18 months. I even had a test that took 5 hours. I am completely frustrated. As for Humira. I can tell you that my son also has an auto immune disease and he is on a biologic much like humira. It has been a god send
I will never have my thyroid removed
My ears burn so bad, it feels like I am melting from the inside
Thank you Dr Shook, I appreciate all your hard work. My Dr. always look at me like they are deer in headlights, when I ask them, “If I have my thyroid removed, wouldn’t my immune system just go after some other tissue?” They NEVER answer me. They change the subject and tell me, that lots of people live without the thyroid. But I always say, “Why should I completely destroy the victim of my immune system?” It makes no sense to me. What you are saying just confirms my thinking on the subject. Thank you
Great
Very nice …. I know now for sure why i have this autoimmune disease coz something is not right or not going well with my body that triggers my immune system to go out of control.. But finding a good doctor is really a big task.
Mine. I was diagnosed october and since i started tapazole and propranolo i feel good right away but i know im not yet cured ..
Thanks for sharing
Jeremiah Kuch Candice A. Peer I feel so lost that my endocrinologist has never done this testing. Please watch this video.
Angela, I kind of told you this. I keep saying that I wouldn’t be surprised if you have lupus now.
Heather Wilkerson, I’m just trying to figure out which direction to go. I would go to this doctor in a heartbeat if I could!
You are amazing at explaining this!! I still have my thyroid. It’s a day at a time.
