    How does soy affect hasimotos

  5. Allison Baker Reply

I quit eating soy because my doctor said it’s not good for my thyroid. I have to watch some of my supplements too because some of them contain soybean.

  6. Samantha Olson Reply

So do we soy or not soy? Lol

  7. Jennifer Bond Reed Reply

i too stopped soy because i heard it’s not good for thyroid and I did a food sensitivity test and it said I was sensitive to it.

  8. Pamela Beasley Hinson Reply

Yes I stopped too because of soy and hypothyroidism

  9. Samantha Olson Reply

Thank u for this. My wellness doc has told me to stay away from it but I can’t keep taking everything out of my diet. I have finally found a protein bar that helps me at times when I need a quick food. Luna bar and it has some soy.

Yes it’s very demonized because of that and that makes ppl scared

  13. Laura DaSilva Reply

Not good for women who had breast cancer.

So, if I am understanding you correctly… it does inhibit absorption? So can it block or inhibit estrogens from hormone replacement therapy?

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

I think it does compete with estriol but I would ask your pharmacist they should know. You may not be taking a hormone replacement that is estriol it’s probably estradiol.

      • Jamie Cordell-Good

I am on a bioidentical HRT called Biest and it is mixed with progesterone as well. It is a compounded medication. I will definitely check with my pharmacist! Thanks!!

      • Jo-Ann Marie

I chose not to do HRT, but my PCP prescribed Duavee. I think I remember her saying that it did have soy in it. That was one of the many reasons that scared me about taking it.

      • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook

Jamie, one of the main things I would consider is estrogne metabolism. If you are metabolising higher amounts of 4OH or 16OH estroges you are at greater risk of cancer. We often do this with a urinary estrogen metabolism test.

When I asked the questions regarding other foods and testing, I was wondering if phytoestrogens in other foods might have a stronger effect in a positive way to stimulate estrogen production in pre-ovarian failure? Soy is used some of HRTs.

How does soy affect those with lupus, hypothyroidism and fibromyalgia?

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Soy is interesting… Soy actually stimulates ER beta receptors. You have Alpha and beta estrogen receptors. Alpha receptors are very stimulatory, they stimulate an estrogen response. Beta receptors are inhibitory they down-regulate the estrogen response. Though beta receptors do stimulate and estrogen response very mildly it actually can have a significant inhibition of estrogen stimulation.
