Thank you as I am one of many that has had my thyroid removed due to cancer. Never had thyroid issues until I fell and hit my head..during my c-scan they say nodules on my thyroid and 4 months later my thyroid was removed. I’ve watched your video on how the thyroid works and I have lots of questions. It seems that the hormone replacement that is released travels all over and works with certain parts in our bodies what happens if that person is also missing more than just there thyroid? I’ve had a complete hysterectomy and have also had my gall bladder removed. So, I’m on estrogen via a patch and take both cytomel and synthroid . How does one balance everything with so much missing and feel normal again?

Thank you. I didn’t realize my GI track played a roll in converting T4 to T3. Had a total thyroidectomy. I’ve been on synthroid for years & recently added Cytomel. I’ll focus next on nutrition & GI tract.

Is it normal for someone that had hypo thyroid change to hyper ? Mine did I was 322 pounds a year ago and now I’m
130 . And still loosing weight. And loosing my hair is thinning extremely. I’m taking a hair skin and nail vitamin it doesn’t seem to help with my hair .

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

It could, especially if you are autoimmune. Your doctor should be checking it to see what is happening.

      • Michelle B Pavilack Williams

He says mg levels are good and he is happy with the weight loss but doesn’t say anything about my hair

  22. Joslyn Cleary Matelski Reply

Do you have expertise with patients who have no thyroid and then suffer heart attack? My father is now suffering from insomnia (he always has this side effect if it can be a side effect from any med) from heart related meds he was prescribed after having stent put in? Cardio doc was less than helpful.

Thanks for posting, looking forward to more. I have hasimotos and take armor but wondering my hair is really thinning is there something natural to take?

I always appreciate your video’s Dr. Shook and your heart to help folks. I would like to see more. I am a graves patient that had Radioactive iodine many years ago. I am dealing with most area’s mentioned, would love to know more, my current doc doesn’t know the big picture, I am trying to figure it out myself, it’s very difficult.

  26. Candy Cotton Reply

this is very helpful as i have no thyroid. and no knowledgeable doctor in our area.

  27. Deborah Jones Murray Reply

Please keep posting! You are so knowledgeable and I have learned so much more from you than my endo who I have been seeing for 5 years!

  28. Susan Hill Markegard Reply

Thank you! I had radioactive iodine many years ago and have been on levothyroxine. Have never felt like my old self though. Recently had armor added but then my TSH was swinging up and down. I have also recently found that I am estrogen dominant. Hmm…

I’ve had a thyroid problem for almost 18 years an presently taking synthroid 150 mcg. This last year I’ve have been feeling very tired lots of pain. I’ve been hearing that there’s a link to fibromyalgia I recently had blood work am everything is fine so the dr says. I would really like to get to the bottom of why I feel like crap everyday. Where is your office I would like to make an apt

    • Libby Tovar-Sparks Reply

I’m going through exact same thing. Waiting to get lab back. My doctor just tested me for fibromyalgia and other auto immune diseases but I’m sure they will all come back fine. All this pain comes from not having a thyroid anymore and majority of the time my tested levels are within normal range but my body sure feels different than what my lab says.

      • Domenica Cucuzza Mousa

Libby Tovar-Sparks who do i go to to get the fibromyalgia lab test????? endo or primary dr?

      • Libby Tovar-Sparks

Domenica Cucuzza Mousa I went to my primary doctor. She said if the test comes back positive she’d send me to a Rheumatologist so they can determine what the actual diagnosis is based off the results

      • Libby Tovar-Sparks

Domenica Cucuzza Mousa they are testing for fibromyalgia as well as different autoimmune diseases and rheumatoid arthritis

      • Domenica Cucuzza Mousa

        Libby Tovar-Sparks thank you

      • Libby Tovar-Sparks

You’re welcome. It’s very frustrating how we do everything we are supposed to be doing to treat it but this disease still turns against our bodies. Hope you find something to help you with the pain

THANK YOU!! I had my thyroid ablated this last summer, I learn a lot from you, although I don’t fall into that hashimoto’s category, so this was great. I still feel like crap, and meds are nowhere near regulated, but I guess it takes time. Thanks again.

  32. Leaha Hawkins Stroud Reply

Thank you for the info, would really like to hear more on this topic. It’s not easy to get info on how to treat symptoms and figure out why the medicine isn’t working for people with no thyroid.

  33. Libby Tovar-Sparks Reply

I asked my doctor yesterday what she tests when she does my lab. She said the only thing important to test is TSH & T4 and that’s all she checks. I’m on synthroid and I had my thyroid removed with radiation capsule 16 years ago. Have lots of joint and muscle pain. ALWAYS tired. What is cytomel? What are the benefits of taking synthroid and cytomel together? I think maybe I need to find a new doctor.

I am diabetic, in Metformin. I have high BP and have been on the maximum dose of Levothyroxine as well as another thyroid drug. You speak of sex hormones but I am not on any med for that. I can’t tell the thyroid meds makes me feel better or gives me any energy. Perhaps I will notice a difference if I take it 30 min before eating. I just learned to do that. There are times I can feel my throat swelling and it scares me. My dr hadn’t really spent much time on my thyroid other than to look at bloodwork and up my dosage. I’ve been told that actually understanding how the T4 converts to T3 is important so I worry we haven’t been thorough. I’m almost 70 and my stomach is huge. I look pregnant. Another person has talked to me about eliminating foods. Please help
