A new study shows that Fibromyalgia is not depression, and that the two are distingushable.1 The study showed that people with fibromaylgia have a great sensitivity to pain due to the body’s inability to down regulate pain signals. A deficiency in some key neurotransmitters are suspected to be responsible. This is a significant statement considering that many healthcare practitioners believe fibromyalgia to be completely psychosomatic, or “in your head”. This research is more evidence that flies in the face of the outdated idea that fibromyalgia is depression.
Keep in mind, if the body is deficient in neurotransmitters, you should be asking the question, “why is the body not making enough neurotransmitters”. Simply taking a supplement or precursor to one of the many neurotransmitters is like putting out fires, but never looking for the arsonist. If you want to be healthy, and get to the root cause of your fibromyalgia, then you have to look deeper for the cause of your symptoms. We use functional diagnostic medicine to detect biochemical imbalances in people with fibromaylgia. This is the KEY, to getting better. No one is the same, and each person has unique biochemistry and underlying “problems”, that predispose you to fibromyalgia. Search for and treat the cause, to have the best chance of getting your life back.
