Is it true once you get graves you alway have it even if you had RAI?

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

You will always be autoimmune, but once the thyroid is gone you may not have higih levels of antibodies becasue the target tissue has been removed.

I may be able to help you support these problems. There are a lot of things you can do that you may not have tried.

Suggestions for weight loss for a person who has had a thyroidectomy!!

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Hi LaShawnna. This is a complex question that is unique to your specific biochemistry that is limiting your metabolism and weight loss.

I would have to know a lot more about your case to give you direction.

I would be happy to take a look at your case and see if I think I can help.

The best way to do this is to start with a Strategy Session (20-minute appointment) rather than a full appointment unless you know for sure you want me to do a full review of your case.

You can learn about Strategy Sessions here: hashimotosdoctor.com/ss

Any suggestions to ask a doctor about certain supplements

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Unfortunately, most doctors don’t know about supplementation. I will tell you that more is not better. I recommend that you only take supplements focused on changing specific body chemistry that needs to be supported in your unique situation.

Typical supplementation that are needed include:

      1) A good multivitamin (Designs for Health Complete Multi)
      2) High EPA Fish Oil (shoot for at least 1250mg EPA per day)
      3) Liquid VItamin D (typical need 5 to 10k per day)

can you tell me if the far infrared sauna is bad for rosacea? I paid for 2 sauna sessions and have done 1 so far. That day my face was bumpy and red but fine after. I want to detox but don’t want to make my rosacea worse.

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

I know a lot of people with rosacea that use the sauna, and none have reported that it has made it worse after they cool down. I would observe it and see if it gets worse. Wish I could give you a more definitive answer.

Yes, this happens a lot, especially if you are on antithyroid meds or have had a thyroidectomy.

      • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook

The focus has to be on looking at the physiology and trying to determine what is breaking down, it could be a lot of different things and my not even be thyroid related.

Appreciate your understanding of thyroid conditions, treatment and conventional medicine’s strengths and drawbacks dealing with a chronic condition. I’ve been willing to change my diet my whole life. It’s probably why my basic markers are not high enough to garner more interest by my Healthcare Provider.
It’s been a lot of years that I’ve had this collection of symptoms. Possibly decades.
And, I have a partner also with significant health challenges. We’re mainly managing by using diet. And, it can get expensive. We’re tapped out!
We’re taken a lot of steps just to figure out what’s been going on.
Good to know about your Strategy Session. We’re highly motivated. Just worn out. Some of these chronic conditions have high correlation to family and relationship abuse dynamics. So, there can be a lot that people are dealing with. Not just motivation. It’s an epidemic for a reason.
Maybe in the future, you could consider partnering with others who are pioneering developments to address underlying causes in dynamics Contributing to the Autoimmune Epidemic. I know of one person you may have quite a bit in common with.
