Should we check for antibodies against the thyroid or other tissues if there are no symptoms?

  1. Kristen Irvin Reply

I found out in my early 20s I had hypothyroidism, few years later learned about hashimotos. When my kids were ages 5 and 8 BOTH tested with positive elevated TPO antibodies.

  2. Alyssia Wright Reply

I would love to get that panel

  3. Julie Morrissey Reply

Came in late, what’s the panel?

  4. Cherie Michelle Reply

I am having a hard time finding a dr that really cares and wants to diagnose my problems. I can’t afford “games” I have given up on drs now and trying to do it myself but I can’t lose weight even though I am very physically active now.

  5. Monica Blackman Reply

    Can my thyroid cause ostiocondroma?

  6. Corin Rios Reply

So unfortunate that more doctors don’t think and work like you !! Thank you for taking the time to help folks to understand what is going on and share such great valuable insight.

  7. Cherie Michelle Reply

I requested an ANA test and the dr actually told me “where do you want me to call you with the negative result” .. guess what he didn’t call me for 3 weeks! because it came back positive! When he told me he said “you don’t sound surprised” .. I wasn’t because I know something is wrong with me and I can’t get help

  8. Fran Pascell Burr Reply

Very interesting. My endocrinologist said other A.I. isn’t likely. Thank you for the information

I get my blood work done. But I do it thru other dr’s. My GI dr & my rheumatologist. And I have sjogrens

    • Fran Pascell Burr Reply

How do they diagnose sjogrens ? I had an ANA test. Now have to see rheumatologist.

      • Lori Hah

I went to a ENT. He does blood work and checked my glands. And a biopsy in your lip.

      • Fran Pascell Burr

Lori Hah had no idea. What are your symptoms?

      • Lori Hah

My salivary glands have always been swollen and hard. Then my original primary that I loved found my thyroid. During the problem solving process. I ended up with a ENT dr. And we discussed dry eyes, mouth, nose and a variety of other things. But that is also why I had so much trouble with my teeth decaying. So after having RAI. The ent said that can burn those glands in the process. But I had the dry eyes, mouth, nose and swelling glands prior to the rai.

    what about fibromyalgia?

  19. Anna Tran Reply

I’ve had two autoimmune diseases. Hashimoto’s and psoriasis. Is the test for antibodies the same for both Hashimoto’s and psoriasis? My Hashimoto’s seems to be under control however psoriasis has flared up and unpleasant

  23. Lori Hah Reply

I struggle to work with my primary dr. She just does not respond nor does my endo. But I do get my ENT & other dr’s just respond better to my requests. Primary dismisses many of my issues. Until I get frustrated and remind her I know my body. I changed my diet drastically. That helped. I handle stress and anxiety thru meditation.

  24. Cathy Baker Reply

I have high TG antibodies, antibodies for celiac and was told it was a gluten sensitivity, positive ANA, and RNP antibodies. Is it possible for any of these to go away? Also have swollen lymph nodes in my throat constantly. Still haven’t been prescribed any medication. I’m a watch and wait. But I do take the recommend supplements to help.

  34. Cherie Michelle Reply

  35. Anna Tran Reply

I believe Sjorgren diagnosis is the same as fibromyalgia. It’s based on your symptoms if you are tested and have the antibodies. I have the antibodies for Sjorgren and lupus but since I don’t have the symptoms, I was not diagnosed as having either.

  53. Jody Childs Reply

    Hello Dr. Shook!

  54. Deborah Shonk Reply

What do you think about Stem cell therapy for thyroid?

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

I’m excited about the possibilities, but I haven’t seen great evidence for it yet. Also, I don’t trust many of the clinics promoting IV stem cells. I have learned a lot about stem cells because I assist a clinic in NC with patient education on regenerative medicine. This is the clinic: RegenMedHT.com

The doctor that supervises the clinic has outstanding credentials, he’s board certified and fellowship trained: American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine, and Fellowship Trained in Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine. This training allows the clinic to provide just about any regenerative therapy, and he’s not keen on the idea of IV stem cells at this point in time, it’s just to early to know if it will help. However, if I was going to do IV, I would visit Neil Riordan in Panama.

      Hope this helps.
