This is why our patients get exercise with oxygen therapy…

Yeah, our office is different, we use cutting edge treatments to get you better faster.  That’s right, we use oxygen with our patients that have pain and that suffer from other chronic conditions.  This is probably a new concept to you, and you may be wondering why we use oxygen, so let me explain. Your brain needs glucose (blood sugar), oxygen, and activation of the neurons to stay healthy. There are numerous studies on the benefits of oxygen therapy, and it will probably be easier if I just list the benefit, and site the research.  Before I list the research, you’ll notice that much of this research is based on oxygen therapy in a hyperbaric chamber which is different from the way we administer it in the office.  In a hyperbaric chamber you have greater absorption of oxygen into the blood plasma, than you do by administering oxygen at normal barometric pressure as we do in the office.  Still, administering oxygen at normal barometric pressure allows you to significantly increase the oxygen in your blood, and reap many of the following benefits:

  1. Oxygen therapy decreases pain and inflammation.1
  2. Oxygen therapy is beneficial in the treatment of chronic pain.2 Several conditions were mentioned in this article (Fibromyalgia syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome, myofascial pain syndrome, migraine, and cluster headaches)
  3. Oxygen therapy is beneficial and important in the treatment of pain associated with fibromyalgia.3
  4. Poor posture that places tension on the low back muscles, may diminish muscle oxygen levels, which leads to fatigue, and increases the chance of a back injury.4
  5. There is strong evidence for the use of oxygen therapy in the recovery from sensorineural hearing loss. It improves pure tone hearing thresholds in cases of sudden sensorineural hearing loss that is unresponsive to medical therapy. 5  This implies a direct relationship to the health of your nervous system and oxygen levels.
  6. Oxygen retards the aging of human cells
  7. Oxygen helps to relieve headaches.2, 8
  8. Oxygen boosts the immune system.6
  9. Oxygen improves nasal air flow.7
  10. Clinical cases have shown oxygen to benefit in cases of depression.
  11. May be beneficial in increasing oxygenation in areas of the brain (caudate nucleus and right thalami) associated with fibromyalgia.9
  12. May be beneficial in increasing oxygenation in skin above tender points in people with fibromyalgia.10
  13. Low levels of oxygen have been found in people with fibromyalgia. 11  Oxygen may be beneficial in increasing oxygenation throughout the body in these people.

Vasculature of the brain shows importance of blood and oxygen to nervous system function.
