Two Things to Consider Doing if You Have Hashimotos

What if you have many many symptoms of Hashi’s along with strong family history of Hashi’s & thyroid cancer, & have tested positive for antibodies but other lab are in low normal range, have small heterogeneous nodules found by ultrasound as well as CT scan & endocrinologist says there is nothing wrong with you. I was also recently diagnosed with sero negative anklyng spondylo arthritis after 13 yrs of suffering. So I guess my actual question is, is it safe to take the selenium supplement without being officially diagnosed with Hashi’s or selenium deficiency to see if it helps to alleviate any symptoms? Thank you for what you do. I’ve been learning a lot & trying desperately to gain enough knowledge & understanding to advocate for myself, my mother, & my daughter when seeing Dr’s who just want to dismiss us as though we are nut jobs. They also were diagnosed with the SNASA. And after many yrs of debilitating symptoms, my mom’s blood work & ultrasound are now showing the damage. She is scheduled for biopsies of 2 fairly large nodules soon. I just pray the damage isn’t so much that it’s just too late.

    Hello Dr. Brad
I have hypothyroidism I take 112mg Synthroid & I had a positive auto-immune too as I develop hives. My Doc told me to take 10mg Zyrtec daily (anti-histamine) for hives. You said being gluten free will help me? I wouldn’t mind taking the medicine you talked about in the video. Do I need a prescription for it? Please let me know. Thanks

    Absolutely, thank you

1 question: I used to have my hair bleached blonde highlights all my life, but had to stop 2 years ago because of a bad reaction… Maybe hydrogen peroxide??
My heart raced, I felt like my head was going to blow & breathing went all over the place.
She had to wash it off really quickly.
Why do you think this happened & also anything I can do to help fix this as I love being blonde and really want to go back to blonde?

Is over the counter selenium ok or do you recommend a certain brand?

Going gluten free, supplementing with Selenium, supplementing with a balanced 50/50 B vitamin and drinking apple cider vinegar have radically improved my Hashimotos!

Do you get special vitamins or just over the counter at walmart?

      • Karen Jiles Griffin

The apple cider vinegar certainly brought my LDL down but I can’t tell if it helped my Hashimotos

Karen Jiles Griffin I get my vitamins from Earth Fare because they are gluten free and if I’m not satisfied they take them back. You have to make sure your vitamins don’t have gluten or artificial colors, favors or binders and a lot of what you get at regular stores aren’t all natural. It just takes patience and a lot of reading of labels. A brand that is trustworthy is Nature’s Sunshine but it’s mail order and you have an annual membership fee. Also you can use any of Jordan Rubin’s raw vitamins and they are at health food stores and Whole Foods, Earth Fare.

Karen Jiles Griffin the apple cider vinegar benefits are cumulative. It really takes 30 days of implementing any dietary changes to see significant change. ACV decreases the inflammation in your body and also adds probiotics to your gut. Drinking one cup of warm water with some (1 tbs) organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar (Braggs is my brand) 2-3 times a day before meals is just enough. Healing your gut is the key to shutting down the Hashimotos.

Yes that’s my brand Ive been taking for about 9 months

      • Christi Rhom Dixon

I took me almost a year to see substantial changes that made me a believer! Hang in there! It’s worth all the hard work in the end!

I would agree that apple cider vinegar and eating the right kind of diet can make a big difference with hashimotos but I have seen people actually get worse consuming fermented foods including apple cider vinegar. It’s interesting that fermented foods have high levels of histamine and I also have some wild strains of yeast that can create problems for people. I believe that the major benefit of apple cider vinegar is because it is acidic and most people have low stomach acidity.

Is there a specific selenium supplement that you would recommend?

  7. Janis Ezack Reply

I will say switching to natural non-flouride toothpaste, organic hair products, natural/organic soap, selenium, using white vinegar and baking soda as a household cleaner, did decrease my TPO antigens. I’ll attempt, again, a strict gluten free diet.
