Did you know that there are 3 stages of autoimmune disease?

In this video, Dr. Shook will share information with you about each stage of autoimmunity and why understanding the progression of autoimmunity is so important to your health.

Understanding the 3 stages of autoimmunity is especially important if you already have an autoimmune condition like Hashimoto’s.

Why don’t doctors know about this stuff and treat accordingly?

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Dawn that’s a good question. I learned this from and immunologist. I can also tell you that this is not taught classically in any medical curriculum. The reality of it is that even if they did recognize this, unless they start adopting new approaches to these problems they are not going to be able to offer you anything. The only thing available medically right now are anti inflammatories, steroids and immunosuppressant and those only fit into stage 3. Your doctors mean well but the system and model that they’re practicing don’t have anything 4 autoimunity other than very Advanced stages, and even in those cases it is just suppression of symptoms.

        Thank you for doing this

Does a endocrinologist test for this? My tsh was at 140 so he said it was obviously hashimoto’s without testing

Dr. Shook…do you just focus on the Thyroid primarily? I’m watching this autoimmune video wondering about my Rosacea and gut symptoms? Now I’m noticing some joint swelling and soreness in my right pinky finger…don’t really know if my thyroid is outta sorts…been a while since it was checked. Never considered myself with thyroid issues.

I mainly work with autoimmune conditions, it just so happens that thyroid autoimmunity is the most common autoimmune condition in the US so I see it all the time. Hope this helps.

Have you come across Urticaria and Angioedema cases and worked to solve them? Thanks

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Judy, I’ve had a few cases of Urticaria, but not angioedema (or at least not that diagnosis), and they were all tough cases. We had to approach it as being caused by autoimmunity and work on the drivers of autoimmunity hoping that it would change the Urticaria. Most of the cases I’ve seen did not improve, but the people did not do the recommended testing to determine the drivers of their autoimmunity either. You can’t support someone’s health without the right testing to tell you what is contributing to the problem. Hope this helps.

The Office of Dr. Brad Shook That makes sense. Testing is a must!

My daughter just got dxd with hashimotos.. Why is this epidemic happening???? Especially in kids?

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Hi meeshaw, I think this is happening because of environmental triggers. We know that autoimunity is 1/3 genetic and 2/3 environment. There been some great studies that have correlated the use of food additives with an increase in autoimmune disease. I hope this helps.

I was diagnosed in 2000 with Graves and Hashimotos. Not sure how that is but that is what the endo said. I went through tons of testing also saw a rheumatologist who told me i would be in a wheel chair possibly in 10 years. I was on so many medications my pharmacists questioned the doctors. I was so sick from all of the meds. One day i woke up and flushed them all down the toilet. I did keep the beta blocker i was on. I finally felt as best i could. I decided to just get up and deal with how the disease made me feel. With that said…i am not in a wheel chair 16 years later. I go for a run when i can. I do my best to eat healthy. My thyroid levels are now just barley to the hypo side at times and at times they go to the hyper side… I do hurt all over most of the time. My pinky finger joints on my right hand are swollen red and painful but i push on. There are times i just cant go anymore. I have tons of symptoms but push on through it. I am going to a new Dr. This month just for my thyroid. He researches and does studies on hormones. Is there anything specific i should ask him to look at in the realm of the thyroid hormone cycle? Something to better help me. I dont want to be on a bunch of medications. This Dr. Isnt a pusher of sorts either. He likes the more natural approaches like getting rid of as many enviro contributors, eating healthy and such. But i feel like my disease may be to far along. Any tips for me?

Hello Dr Shook, these videos have been very helpful. I am curious if you’ve ever worked with clients with alopecia? My brother lost hair over his entire body. I’m assuming a lot of what you are teaching on autoimmunity would apply to him as well.

What does it mean to test positive for speckled autoimmune disease? I asked my doctor about my test results and he said it was speckled. So I had to have more testing done. Any information would be very much appreciated.

I appreciate your willingness to educate, Dr. Shook. Most physicians and practitioners fail to realize that the more info you share the more trust is built resulting in new, qualified patients. I’ve been on this crazy journey for 35 years and still didn’t know things you are presenting. Bravo and thank you for your commitment.

is lichen planus connected to my thyroid goiters? or vs versus?

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Lichen Planus is autoimmune, and your thyroid may be too. If your thyroid is AI (hashimoto’s) then they are connected and caused by autoimmunity.

Didn’t even know about autoimmune diseases until my thyroid stopped working(hypo) . After researching I can see how this has affected both sides of my family for generations, but in different forms. Since I didn’t know in the early stages; now what? How do I protect my children? Thank you
