i hear this alot but wondered where the research comes from ? can you point me in the right direction to read up. ive been tested for gluten intolerance but came back clear

If you want to know about the most accurate gluten lab testing and you need to look at cyrex Labs array number three. If you want to know more about the science behind those labs then you will want to look at the scientific Publications behind each one of the arrays offered through them. You can also look up Alessio Fasano he is a Harvard gastroenterologist has been doing most of the research on non-celiac gluten sensitivity and his work is also readily available online. There’s a tremendous amount of literature if you go to pubmed.gov you can just search non-celiac gluten sensitivity and you can start going and finding a lot of literature on the topic. Hope this helps you out.

I wish I could talk to my doctor…She is close minded when I bring up anything about my thyroid, i.e. Brain fog, gluten sensitivity, natural thyroid medication options, etc. I am looking for yet another Dr…Your videos are very empowering and educational!

I have been gf for 4 months. I don’t feel any different but does that mean that gluten isn’t a problem for me? Even though I don’t feel a difference, doesn’t gluten cause inflammation and perpetuate autoimmune disease? I was under the impression that even if I don’t have problems eating gluten, it is still causing unseen problems. Is this true? Thanks for your videos!

What blood tests are needed to determine Hashi’s? There seems to be controversy regarding that.

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

      TPO and/or Thyroglobulin Antibodies

      • Angela Porter Smith

The Office of Dr. Brad Shook That is what I always thought too, however my endocrinologist is telling me that TgAb is a cancer marker only and has nothing to do with Hashi’s therefore since only my TgAb is elevated, she won’t diagnose me with Hashi’s.

What about nodules? I’m having my thyroid removed in a week due to multinodular thyroid.

ive seen alot about the benefits of fasting. whats your advice about this please ?

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

I like fasting, but only when the body can handle it. I also prefer a 12 to 14 hour fast. I like to fast from 6PM to 8 or 10 AM the next day. Extending the fast through the night works well for a lot of people and is easier that fasting for several days.

I am Celiac and Hashis and I also do not tolerate dairy and other foods I am still trying to identify and eliminate. It’s very hard. But gluten and dairy nearly killed me. Dr. Shook…my two teenage sons are also diagnosed by biopsy Celiac. They are nearly asymptomatic as of now and refuse to be strict. Only at home since our home is 100% GF. Any suggestions? I just try to educate them.

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Christin, that is unfortunate! Sounds like you are taking all the right steps. Keep trying to educate them on the seriousness of this disease. Keep the home GF. Make a list of restaurants in your area that have gluten free options on their menu and encourage them to order GF as often as possible when they aren’t with you. Teens are impossible to control, but you can say you tried your best to give them the tools they need to succeed with their health! Good Luck!!

The Office of Dr. Brad Shook thanks! That is what I’ve done. I’m always encouraging it. I forward articles. They say that they will be strict when they are older. I’m just so scared that they will have to experience the hell I have experienced when it’s avoidable. But they just don’t seem to take it seriously.

I was rested for gluten ..dr said I was fine……is there other test?????

  15. Dee Miller-Kunis Reply

I have been gluten free since February 21st, 2016. I found out that 10 years ago, I was tested for TPO antibodies and the test result was 125. I was not even told about that and I was not told about having Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. Last December, I had my doctor test for TPO antibodies and the result was 240 this time. I have found out about how gluten affects the immune response so I decided to see if I can get my antibodies down through diet. I have a new test coming up on 13 July this month. I can hardly wait to see what it says after nearly five months. I have been taking supplements such as iodine, selenium, zinc, magnesium, and probiotics. I think my brain fog has lifted some. I did lose 10 pounds and my chronic constipation is gone. I still take my thyroid medication but I am hoping my thyroid improves.

Absolutely gluten-free and dairy-free for me. I have hashis. If I eat gluten now by mistake I get blood blisters in my mouth within a few minutes.
