My insurance does not cover a lot. How much would this blood test cost?

Hi Cheryl. Functional Medicine is considered “not medically necessary” according to all insurance policies that I have seen. General health plans tend to follow the federal government, and this is Medicare’s position. This is a quote from Medicare Guidelines, Section 2251.3. “A treatment plan that seeks to prevent disease, promote health, and prolong and enhance the quality of life; or therapy that is performed to maintain or prevent deterioration of a chronic condition is deemed not medically necessary.” There you have it. If you are in a crisis situation that they determine to be “medically necessary” you’re covered! This is the definition of “sick care.” Testing costs vary greatly depending on what the person needs. I order groups of tests depending on what I think the person needs. Testing usually varies from $199 up to $1500 or more, just depending on what the person needs. Without the testing there is no way to figure out what is driving the process. If that would be a burden financially, we offer financing to all of our patients and most people can get access to care for $80 per month. Hope this helps.

I appreciate your reply and I especially appreciate your videos! I will consider the test and how exactly to get to North Carolina. Please keep the videos coming!

      • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook

You’re welcome Cheryl, I do offer telemedicine and work with people via Skype and telephone on a daily basis. If you need help, let me know we might be able to work out something from a distance. All of the labs can be done at a local lab near you, and samples can be returned to the lab via a test kit, you don’t have to come to North Carolina.

Now, that’s good news!! Thanks again for your reply. I’ll be I touch!

I am hypothyroidism patient. My thyroid level is 0.715

    • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook Reply

Hi, this likey your TSH level. For TSH this number is usually considered on the higher side and associated with higher thyroid hormone levels. If this is your tsh, then I need to see more lab values to give you an idea of what might be happening.

    My weight is 77 kg.
How to reduce weight. Please suggest me.
    What will be diet chart.

I usually start my patients on a diet removing grains, eggs, soy and dairy, then see how they feel after one month, but that may not be the problem. You need more lab markers, especially thyroid hormone levels, T4, T3, both free and total, t3 uptake, rt3, and antibodies.

        I am sending my report.

        And what type take antibiotics.

      • The Office of Dr. Brad Shook

Sarika, in similar cases to yours, I have focused on improving conversion of t4 to t3. Your y4 levels are good, but your conversion to t3, the active form is weak. This conversion happens in the liver and gi tract. There are many more factors to consider, like Inflammation and blood sugar to name a few. I don’t see any markers of infection, that is usually why antibiotics are recommended

I take eltroxin 50 mg in a morning.
